~~~ Memorial of the Guardian Angels ~~~
~~~ Job 19:21-27 ~~~ Psalm 27 ~~~ Matthew 18:1-5, 10 ~~~
I believe that I shall see the good things
of the Lord in the land of the living.
Guardian angels protect us from harm
in great and small situations.
What if your guardian angel is beside
but completely camouflaged?
Maybe they are transparent so that they
can move about without notice.
Angels are one of those good things that some
day we will be able to see.
My guardian angel has been working overtime the last couple years.
Every time I board the bus I picture the wings
of my guardian angel surrounding the bus
keeping us safe on the road.
Maybe all of the passenger's angels get together
and take turns watching out for all of us.
Sometimes my guardian angel is just the right
size to perch on my shoulder;
the perfect place to whisper into my ear.
The Gospel today speaks of the little children
having angels in heaven looking after them.
As a child it is easy to believe you do
have an angel assigned just to you.
Children are so open; they have no established biases.
Once certain beliefs become part of who you are it
takes sheer will power to change what you believe.
It seems so fitting that we have this day for our guardian angels
following the feast day of the Little Flower.
She taught us the spiritual value of being like little children.
Today I want to return to my childhood days....
I want to believe in angels...
I want to know that I do have
an angel just to keep watch over me.
Do you pray to your guardian angel?
Eye has not seen what God has prepared for us,
but the angels know. They keep God always in their sight.
...their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.
It may be a challenge for some to believe in angels,
but we have many references in the Bible to their existence.
Whether or not they exist, it is comforting to believe
one such heavenly creature is always with me.
May your Guardian Angel bless and protect
you all the days of your life.
May your Guardian Angel escort
you into heaven at the hour of your death.
