God: Father-Mother

~~~ Isaiah 49:8-15~~~ Psalm 145 ~~~ John 5:17-30 ~~~
Can a mother forget her infant,
be without tenderness for the child of her womb?
Even should she forget,
I will never forget you.
God does not need proof of loyalty
 to his teachings through fighting battles.
God looks for the degree to which we have love,
tenderness, compassion in our heart.
God is our Father and God is our Mother too.
Saints and Popes have testified God as both Father and Mother.
A mother can give her child milk to suck, but our precious mother,
Jesus, can feed us with himself. He does so most courteously
and most tenderly, with the Blessed Sacrament, which is the precious
food of true life. With all the sweet sacraments he sustains us
most mercifully and graciously. Julian of Norwich
God watches over us, care for us, nourishes us
as a mother watches, cares and nourishes us in the physical life.
Julian tells us she,
...saw with complete certainty that God, before creating us,
loved us, and His love never lessened and never will.
In this love he accomplished all his works, and in this love he oriented
all things to our good and in this love our life is eternal.
A mother begins loving the child she will have from
the beginning of her maternity.
Even when a couple adopts they begin loving the child
who will come to them as soon as they get confirmation
of being chosen by the birth mother.
Between God and the soul there is no between.
A mother's love for her child is much the same...
there is no between.
The child is within the womb of the mother,
being nurtured and protected at all times for nine months.
God as our mother allows us to be constantly be reborn
through the Sacraments he gave us through his Son, Jesus.
Lent is a time for us to recall the various ways
God is both our Father and our Mother.
We are in God and God is in us.
We were created in the image and likeness of God;
just as a child favors the image and likeness to their birth parents.
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life,
so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes.
Julian tells us to believe that
'all will be well'
This is exactly what we hear in the readings today.
The hour is coming when the tombs will open
 and all who hear his voice will come out.
Those who do good deeds will be resurrected
into the life of Jesus.
Blessings
from our Mother...God.
~~~Peace~~~

How Optimistic are You?

~~~ Acts of the Apostles 13:26-33 ~~~ Psalm 2 ~~~ John 14:1-6 ~~~
Do not let your hearts be troubled.
The disciples following Jesus expressed their concern
 and confusion about the future without him.
He calms their fears with the promise
 that they will be able to come after him...
He assures them that they do indeed
know the way because they know him.
When you have a relationship with Jesus...
when you love Jesus
the way will become clear.
The Spirit, sent down to them will be their guiding light.
We have this same guiding light from the Spirit.
Knowing the way, does not always insure
 that one will choose to follow the path.
Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...
All who come to the Father must come through Jesus, the Son.
There is no reason to have troubled hearts...
Julian of Norwich offers us the best mantra for our soul in her words...
all will be well and all manner of things will be well.
Some have considered her to be radically optimistic,
but this expresses her sustaining love of God.
Julian heard God's comforting words
God is all goodness and he only wants to give us this pure goodness.
When stress rises within your heart cling to these words of well-being.
Jesus is with us in all ways in all things.
Turn to him...trust in him.
Optimism in God is not radical it is real.
Peace be with you
in all manner of all things.
Do not be afraid.
Peace...Pass It On
~~~ Acts: 14:19-28 ~~~ Ps. 145 ~~~ John 14: 27-31a ~~~

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid."

Wonderful words to read, hear and reflect upon. But in reality I must ask do we really know what it means to have this peace from Jesus?

If you listen to the news reports from around the world you would not be inclined to think of Peace. If you listen to the reports from around our own country Peace would not be in the forefront of your mind.

Jesus wants us to receive his gift of peace, but it challenges us. It challenges us because we must learn to accept this peace in spite of what we may be hearing and seeing. This is a peace coming freely...a peace that surpasses all other peace.

A few weeks ago I was speaking with a young crew member from Russia. He was sharing about his life on the cruise ship. The crew has a difficult schedule they work long hours every day. He spoke about keeping a good attitude and how vital it was to his emotional well being. He had a kind positive manner about himself.
He had decided to make the best of his work environment
no matter what he was asked to do. Each time we got the opportunity to share a few words with him we tried to make him feel appreciated.

If we can just learn to find ways in our life to embrace this peace from Jesus;
we will find ourselves in a better place. It we can gradually become more in tune with this peace, we will see it in more areas of our life.

Peace is not something that we can experience by reading a book.
Peace must be experienced within your soul.

During the Mass when the part comes to extend peace to those around you, make the intention to really let it come from your heart to their heart.

Peace around the world must ultimately be up to each one of us. We must decide to make peace within ourselves a priority before we can extend this peace out to others.

If we cannot have peace without hatred in this world let us remember to always nurture peace within ourselves. I pray that I can always be the one to tip the scale in favor of peace. Not my peace, but peace coming from Jesus.

Do not let your hearts be troubled.
As Julian of Norwich says, 'All will be well'.
