A Lesson of Trust

~~~ 1 John 4:7-10 ~~~ Psalm 72 ~~~ Mark 6:34-44 ~~~
...looking up to heaven...
We find Jesus many times through scripture
 using this gesture of looking up.
It is probably no coincidence
 that during Mass when the priest
 offers the gifts of bread and wine to God
he too looks up to heaven.
Jesus was with the people but he never failed
to acknowledge where his power came from...God the Father.
Even Jesus knew that he all that he was able to do
with and for the people came first
from his union with the Father.
Jesus did not let his location...
being in a deserted place...keep him from feeding the crowd.
His compassion for the hungry people took precedence.
Jesus did not let the time...it is already very late...
 hinder his decision to feed the people.
Jesus did not hesitate or was baffled by the circumstances.
He could have easily sent the crowd away
 with the invitation to return the following day.
In fact this may be what the disciples thought
he should have done.
His disciples were feeling quite inadequate.
It is obvious that Jesus surprised them with his response.
Perhaps he took advantage of this precise
situation to teach the disciples an important lesson.
There is someone above who cares and responds to our needs.
If the disciples could learn how to rely on God
they would not be so easily frustrated.
Perhaps Jesus wanted to teach them to make use
 of what was available to them in any given situation.
Could there be a lesson here for us as well?
I think the answer is 'yes'.
So many times we look for solutions
 to our problems to the outside.
Sometimes the answers lie inside our heart.
Too many times we believe the answers should be obvious...
floating on top...easy to access.
Eventually we learn that the solutions from God
are only revealed when we raise our eyes to heaven.
It is through our prayer of trust that we are
able to see the answers.
When we trust he offers to us enough to feed the crowd.
Through this trust we come to realize
 that God really did love us first.
The Blessings of trusting in the Lord
to feed the hungry was impressive that day.
It was late in the evening in a deserted place.
Do you believe that God
will feed you in your deserted place?
~~~Peace~~~
