~~~ Romans 11:29-36 ~~~ Psalm 69 ~~~ Luke 14:12-14 ~~~
Would you invite God to dine in your home?
I think it would make me a little crazy to even extend the invitation.
Honestly it is rare that we have guests in our home.
I could give any number of reasons and excuses,
but I will spare you the boredom.
Jesus is often seen dining with all sorts of unsavory people of the time.
He is never discouraged from sharing himself over a meal.
There is a certain camaraderie in sitting around the same table.
The conversations are casual and can become quite intimate.
Often we let our defenses down before we realize it has happened.
We begin to show our true colors.
The gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.
When Jesus dined with one of his followers
they were given a close up view.
He always presented himself as accepting and caring.
He spoke to them as friends no matter
what their status in the community.
When you share a meal with someone you admire
you get the chance to see who they are, for the most part,
a normal ordinary person.
Jesus dined at the home of one of the leading Pharisees on the Sabbath.
There were very strict rules and laws governing
the keeping of the Sabbath day holy.
Undoubtedly much preparation went into this meal.
We are invited to the table of the Lord every time we attend Mass.
God has prepared a place for us.
It does not matter if you are rich or poor, male or female, saint or sinner,
healthy or sick; all are called to the Eucharistic table.
The Lord has prepared a feast for us like none other.
A feast that gives us food for the journey.
A feast that gives us the Bread of Life.
Come to the table of the Lord knowing
that you are unable to repay him for all that he has given to you.
that you are unable to repay him for all that he has given to you.
He wants you to dine with him.
He wants to share with you all that he is...
Truly we are not worthy to dine at the table of the Lord,
but we are included as his friend.
He wants to share with you all that he is...
Truly we are not worthy to dine at the table of the Lord,
but we are included as his friend.
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To God be glory forever. Amen.
The guest of honor blesses us in dining with him.
Come to the Table.
Come to the Table.
